A Celebration of the Life of Georgina Anderson
Posted on January 11, 2015
This week the CAW Local 27 Retirees Chapter lost Gina Anderson. Gina was a driving force in the running of our chapter, a long time union activist, an elected member in many union positions for decades and mostly a great and loyal friend.
She loved Photography, backgammon, carpet bowling, balloon animals and of course she loved fighting for a good and just cause. She was always the first to be on that bus, you know the one! The bus heading for a protest march, a strike line or a demonstration in front of a MP's office.
Gina first held an elected union position in 1971! She held many more positions through the decades for Eaton Automotive, Bendix, Coopers Standard and of course Local 27. In addition to these positions she worked with many committees ranging from the Women’s Advisory Committee to the Human Rights committee and still she found time to Volunteer with Meals-On-Wheels London.
Over the last few days I have heard many funny Gina stories, many examples of her generosity and loyalty to friends and many tales of her antics on the protest line. She was a very special person the likes of whom will not pass this way again.
The author Albert Pike said "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal". Gina did so much for so many for so many years, it will be many, many lifetimes before her memory fades.
On June the 18th at 3:30 pm Local 27 will be hosting "A Celebration of the Life of Georgina Anderson". Many speakers including Ken Lewenza and Hector McLellan will salute Gina's life, loves and accomplishments. Please plan on attending this event and join Gina's family and friends in Celebrating Gina's Life.
